Remote Assistance Vs Remote Desktop

Evolution of the internet and advancement in technology has made communication from different location easy and fast. When it comes to the work environment, one of the best examples in this field is remote desktop. A remote desktop is software that makes it possible for a computer user to access another computer from different locations.
RemoteAssistance and RemoteDesktop are almost similar tools that work on the same concept. Both allow remote access to Windows PCs from other location. However, they work on the similar concept, but still remote assistance provides some additional functionalities. The major areas of comparison between the two according to different categories are as follows:
Background
Remote Desktop enables its user at a remote location to have full visibility of Window PC desktop and can easily control the computer as it is kept in front of it. Remote Assistance allows the user at both ends to communicate via instant messaging.
Functionality
Remote Desktop works on a simple windows utility called Remote Desktop Connection. It allows its users to direct access the Windows machine via IP address. It is often used by IT departments to access servers to control PCs on a Local Area Network.
On the other hand, Remote Assistance enables its users to send the access code to provide remote assistance over the internet. It also allows chatting with a person who is helping them to use their computer.
Alternatives
A user can use third party software tools with additional functions such as sending a document to print at the remote location or ability to transfer files between the two computers.
Moreover, remote access applications are not only used for official purpose. They can be used by an average user to access the desktop at another location; the one kept in the neighbor’s house to share the music files or view photos or videos. All that is required is the internet connectivity.
